By State Representative Larry Metz

During the 2012 regular legislative session, I sponsored House Bill 1209, which would prohibit the application of foreign law in certain family law cases. With more than 30 co-sponsors, the bill was supported by members of both parties and passed the House 92-24.

Although the bill died in the Senate, it will likely return next year. Similar bills have been passed in Arizona, Louisiana and Tennessee.
